Tribal Origin & Cultural Background
The skullcap originates from the Yomut (Yomud) Turkmen, one of the five major Turkmen tribes living across northern Iran (Turkmen Sahra) and southern Turkmenistan.
Yomut women traditionally embroidered these caps for daily wear, ceremonies, and cultural events such as Kusht Depdi dances. Today, well-preserved examples from the mid-20th century are considered museum-quality ethnic textiles.

Colours & Natural Dyes
- Deep red: dyed with madder root, symbolising joy and protection
- Green & white vegetal dyes
- Black accents derived from indigo-based dyes
Motifs & Symbolic Meaning
- Boustan Gardi (circular garden motifs): symbolise paradise gardens, fertility, and continuity
